Duoliang Station, located near the Southern Cross-Island Highway, was originally the site of the Paiwan tribe's "Dala Dalan Society." During the Japanese occupation, it was renamed "Duoduoliang," and after the construction of the Southern Cross-Island Railway, its name was simplified to "Duoliang." Although trains ceased stopping there in 2006 due to low passenger volume, Duoliang Station is still hailed as one of the most beautiful stations in Taiwan for its stunning location nestled against the mountains and facing the sea.

Entering the Duoliang Park, a viewing platform on the second floor offers panoramic views of the breathtaking seascape. Visitors can also witness the spectacular sight of trains speeding through the mountains. This attracts many railway enthusiasts. In addition to the natural scenery, the park is surrounded by art installations, ensuring that every view is a memorable experience!

Not far above Duoliang Station is "Sunshine Heritage Woodworking Workshop," a renovation of Duoliang Elementary School, which had been idle for 10 years. Its purpose is to create employment opportunities for rural areas. Here, you can admire wooden handicrafts and enjoy various meals and drinks. The large-scale art installation "Angel Wings" within the park is also a must-see.

Jinzhen Mountain, located in Tai Ma Li, is a renowned scenic spot for flower viewing, especially during the daylily season.

Statistics show that Jinzhen Mountain is home to 18 species of fireflies, the most prominent being the black-winged firefly. The Jinlun Rainbow Bridge is a steel arch bridge spanning the Jinlun River. Its red exterior stands out prominently amidst the surrounding lush green mountains and waters. The bridge was completed in June 1999 during the tenure of Wang Shumu, the former mayor of Taimali Township. From the bridge, one can look eastward to the Pacific Ocean and enjoy the magnificent scenery of the estuary and the beautiful valley.

Chulu Ranch is the largest hillside ranch in Taiwan. Herds of dairy cows roam leisurely across the lush grasslands. The snow-white fences and vermilion houses, set against a backdrop of azure sky and soft white clouds, resemble a picturesque European manor, captivating visitors. Besides dairy cows, Chulu Ranch also houses pet horses, four-horned sheep, rabbits, and other animals, allowing visitors to get up close to more animals. Visitors can feed the cows fresh hay and enjoy DIY craft activities. Chulu Ranch uses fresh milk to make a variety of rich and delicious dairy products, including fresh milk ice cream, fresh milk buns, cheese, and crispy cookies, making them some of the best souvenirs from Taitung.

Established in 1973, Chulu Ranch is the oldest large-scale tourist ranch in Taitung. The ranch covers an area of 67 hectares and is located on a plateau between 200 and 390 meters above sea level. It is surrounded by the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. The expansive view is refreshing and relaxing. The ranch has also developed grass skiing experience, which is unique to hillside ranches and is very popular with children.

On this natural treasure, a rich and diverse array of vegetation and ecosystems intertwine and coexist, making visitors feel as if they have stepped into a natural paradise. The First Sunrise Memorial Park, located in Taimali Township on the South Cross-Island Highway, is a popular destination every New Year's Day, where people cheer and wait for the first sunrise of the new year. Its beautiful coastal scenery is also a captivating feature. However, outside the Sunrise Memorial Park, there is a lesser-known bay that also boasts beautiful coastal scenery.

It's called Huayuan Bay. As the name suggests, the road along the coast leads to Huayuan Village in Taimali Township. Located between the Central Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean, it's an excellent spot for watching the sunrise. On a clear day, you can also see Green Island and Orchid Island. With its azure sea and sky, and smooth sandy beach, you can enjoy the tropical atmosphere of the South without leaving the country.

The coconut palm avenue at National Taiwan University originated from the "Taipei Imperial University" period founded in 1928, and was planned and planted by a Japanese professor in 1932.

The origin and history of the Coconut Grove Avenue: Planning and design: In 1932, when Professor Nakamura Sanba and Saburo Onuma of the Department of Horticulture at Taipei Imperial University planned the campus, they designed this east-west central axis road and planted tall and straight royal palm trees on both sides.

The imagery and symbolism of the South: At the time, the Japanese colonial government hoped to create a tropical resort atmosphere in Taiwan, and at the same time, by introducing coconut trees, to highlight the different tropical landscape features of Taipei Imperial University and the Imperial University in Japan.

Name Evolution: This road was originally just a gravel-paved central axis of the campus. In the early postwar period, it did not have an official name, and teachers and students called it "Sunshine Avenue", "Campus Avenue" or "Sunset Avenue" depending on the era. "Coconut Grove Avenue" is the name that came into use later because it was lined with giant coconut palms on both sides, and it gradually became the most representative spiritual symbol of National Taiwan University.

The Dawu Heart South Cross-Island Highway rest stop has a vast area, with a two-story building of 560 ping (approximately 163 square meters) and nearly two hundred parking spaces for various types of vehicles, making it comparable in size to highway rest stops. As the largest rest stop in Taitung County, it is also one of the few large rest areas on the South Cross-Island Highway.

In addition to providing a resting place for travelers, the Dawu Heart South Return Station will also serve as a showcase for local specialties. The store features many famous Taitung snacks, such as aboriginal A-Bai, local famous steamed buns, and dishes made with natural, pollution-free organic ingredients and herbs from Taitung.

Xiangyang Xinchuan Woodworking Workshop (Adidan Cultural Story Museum) is located in Duoliang Village, Taimali Township, Taitung County. It is situated above Duoliang Station, the most beautiful station in Taiwan, and was converted from the abandoned school building of Duoliang Elementary School after its closure.

The Paiwan people traditionally called themselves "Adidan" and referred to themselves as "friends of the land." They regarded all living things in nature as being on the same level as humans, respected every living thing, and made good use of every natural resource. The Paiwan's hierarchical society is considered to be a prototype of Taiwan's early social enterprise model, just like the spirit of Xiangyang Xinchuan Woodworking Workshop today, which aims to accompany the tribe in developing local industries and help those who have wandered away from their ancestral home find their way home.
The museum primarily showcases the traditional cultural wisdom of the Paiwan people and the social enterprise spirit of Xiangyang Xinchuan Woodworking Workshop. It also displays the use of wooden household items and exhibits local handicrafts. Combined with Jinlun Hot Springs, Duoliang Bus Station, and Dawushan Ecological Education Center, it forms one of the best cultural tourism destinations along the Southern Cross-Island Highway.

The Lulacs Suspension Bridge, located in Liqiu Village, Jinfeng Township, Taitung County, spans the Jinlun River and is an important bridge connecting Jinfeng Township and Taimali Township. Originally built in 1955, it was destroyed half a century later by Typhoon Morakot in 2009. Liqiu Village is mainly inhabited by Paiwan and Rukai tribes. Through the efforts of the villagers and various organizations, the Lulacs Suspension Bridge was restored in 2017 with a modern and original design, becoming a vital transportation artery for Liqiu Village.

Liqiu is famous for its golden millet. Not far from the Lulac Suspension Bridge is the Millet Academy, which introduces millet varieties and the culture of the Paiwan and Rukai peoples. It also sells millet agricultural products, which are perfect for personal enjoyment or as souvenirs for friends. There are also many paid experiences to participate in. The Chung-Yung Bike Path is a less-noticed bike path on the east coast. This loop road passes through the Chung-Yung and Chang-Kuang communities. Both Chung-Yung and Chang-Kuang communities are sites of the late Neolithic Qilin Culture (also known as the Megalithic Culture). In modern times, the inhabitants are mainly Amis people, one of the largest Amis tribes on the east coast. During the Qing Dynasty, they mainly cultivated upland rice and millet. During the Japanese occupation, they learned rice cultivation techniques from the Kavalan people living in the Cheng-Zi-Pu area and concentrated the tribe's manpower to open irrigation canals and create the terraced fields that are seen everywhere today.

Located on the northwestern coast of the tribe, a mountain peak, shaped by the interplay of terrain and light, resembles a giant gorilla standing tall, hence its name "King Kong Mountain." The bike path between the two tribes, near the Changguang tribe, offers a panoramic view of this lifelike King Kong Mountain and is thus known as "King Kong Avenue." Because this bike path is free of utility poles and lined with terraced fields, its ever-changing scenery throughout the seasons has earned it the comparison to Brown Avenue on the East Coast.

Standing on the Gumgang Avenue, you can see Mount Gumgang and the vast Pacific Ocean in the distance. The terraced fields on both sides change with the seasons, from emerald green to golden yellow, each with its own unique beauty.

Sanxiantai Scenic Area, located in Chenggong Township, Taitung County, is one of the most representative natural and cultural attractions on the east coast. The magnificent eight-arched cross-sea bridge, resembling a giant dragon lying on the sea, connects the main island of Taiwan with the offshore island of Sanxiantai, leading travelers on an exploration journey that combines mythology and marine wonders. The island is dotted with geological wonders such as sea stacks, potholes, and tunnel-like sea arches formed by volcanic agglomerates, which are truly breathtaking.

Kararuan is an Amis tribe village in Donghe Township, Taitung County. In their language, it's called "kararuan," meaning "place to wash hair." Legend has it that the stream water was rich in natural minerals, and washing hair with it would make it exceptionally soft and shiny, hence the name. The recreation area was originally an abandoned landfill site from an air force base. After several eco-friendly renovations, it has been transformed into a seaside attraction that combines natural scenery with artistic creations.

The park boasts stunning views where the Pacific Ocean meets Dulan Mountain. Expansive lawns are dotted with pavilions and viewing platforms, along with numerous art installations, creating an atmosphere brimming with nature and creativity. Tomioka Geopark (Yehliu) is located next to Tomioka Fishing Port. It is named after the diverse sea-eroded landscapes that resemble Yehliu on the north coast. There are all kinds of beautiful and strange rocks here, such as monoclinal ridges, honeycomb rocks, turtle formation rocks, tofu rocks, mushroom rocks, etc., making it like a natural sculpture park.

Due to the varying hardness of sandstone and mudstone, the strata of Tomioka Geopark (Oyoryu) have gradually developed regular, wave-like undulations in their appearance under the long-term erosion of the sea. The joints on the surface of the rock layers present very clear geometric lines, with exquisite and delicate features like a sculpture, yet also a bold and artistic presentation, resembling a natural stone sculpture park. The Baxiandong Site in Changbin Township, Taitung County, is a group of sea caves located beside Provincial Highway 11. It is also the birthplace of the Changbin Culture of the Paleolithic Age. Very rich Paleolithic culture has been discovered here, making it the earliest human site discovered in Taiwan and a major archaeological discovery in Taiwan! Its rich historical connotations and rare sea cave landscape attract many tourists to visit and admire its beauty.

Following the wooden boardwalk, you can access various sea caves for a visit. Among the Eight Immortals Caves, the largest is "Lingyan Cave." Taitung Seaside Park is located on the east side of Taitung City, adjacent to the vast Pacific Ocean. Stretching for about one kilometer from north to south, it is a recreational area that combines natural beauty with leisure. The park features expansive lawns that connect to the beach, making it suitable for hosting various large-scale events and allowing visitors to fully enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the seaside. The park is also a section of the Taitung City Ring Bikeway, known as the "Mountain and Sea Bikeway," where visitors can rent bicycles and ride along the coastline to enjoy the beautiful sea views.

The most famous landmark in the park is the "International Landmark" on the north side. Damaged by a typhoon, the International Landmark was renovated and reopened in February 2025, with a limited-time nighttime light show planned, transforming it into a space for light and shadow art. Other public art installations are also located on the lawns surrounding the park.

There are several other attractions worth visiting around the Seaside Park, including the Taitung Spring Sports Park, which utilizes natural springs and is a safe place for water activities in the summer. Heading north from the Seaside Park across the Green Water Bridge, you'll enter the Taitung Forest Park (an entrance fee for cleaning and maintenance is required), where you can enjoy a different kind of natural scenery.

The eastern coast of the Beinan Plain was formerly known as "Baosang," the name of an Amis tribe, meaning a small hill rising from the ground. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty, the Qing government established "Beinan Subprefecture" here, which was later renamed "Taitung Prefecture." During the Japanese occupation, it was called "Beinan Street." In 1919, because it was located in the eastern part of Taitung, it was renamed "Taitung Street." In 1945, the Republic of China government renamed it "Taitung Township," and on New Year's Day 1976, it was upgraded to "Taitung City."

Sixty years ago, "Donghe Hotel" was a favorite spot for businessmen traveling between the north and south coasts to enjoy a hearty meal; sixty years later, "Donghe Steamed Buns" are a must-try for travelers enjoying the scenic beauty of the east coast. From 1956 to the present, anyone who has traveled along Provincial Highway 11 knows that Donghe Steamed Buns are a must-buy snack along the Taitung coast!

Mr. Yang said that the Donghe Steamed Buns, which has been passed down for three generations, was originally a restaurant specializing in Fuzhou cuisine, called "Donghe Restaurant". When the first generation of Mr. Yang came to Taitung, Taitung was mostly wasteland with land grabbing. He was looking for a good development opportunity. He took a bus from Tainan to Pingtung, and then walked all the way from Shandimen to Zhiben, Taitung, and finally settled in Donghe.
Grandpa Yang, who worked as a policeman during the Japanese occupation, took over a restaurant specializing in Fuzhou cuisine as a side business. Due to its location, "Donghe Restaurant" became the earliest rest stop on the narrow coastline at that time, where travelers from the north and south would have a meal.
Back then, most people living by the sea were poor and couldn't afford meat on a daily basis. Therefore, the meat buns in the shop were a top-tier luxury, and Fuzhou buns were the signature dish. Even now, if you ask older locals, the phrase "eating buns with lobster soup" still evokes a strong impression!
Later, as my grandparents got older, the restaurant transformed into a steamed bun shop. Business was slow at first, but the family's perseverance and hard work led to its current success. With the economic boom in Taiwan in 1998, the Yang family changed the shop's name to "Donghe Steamed Buns." Now, it has grown from a small shop into a well-known local establishment. The shop has moved from near the old provincial highway's former branch office to its current location next to Provincial Highway 11, making it even more prominent and impressive.

【Donghe Baozi】Simply selling baozi (steamed buns) attracts a constant stream of customers, with a record of selling over 10,000 baozi during the Lunar New Year! Owner Yang says that their baozi-making process has always been very simple, emphasizing "simple seasoning and purely handmade wrapping, so you can taste the original flavor of the food!" Therefore, the baozi skin is never modified with any additives. This meticulous, practical, and three-generation-old service spirit is the reason why the old shop has always been loved by everyone.

Originally, the shop only sold a few types of buns, such as meat buns, red bean buns, peanut buns, and steamed buns. Now, it offers more flavors, including bamboo shoot buns, pickled cabbage buns, cabbage buns, and scallion rolls, to satisfy everyone's preferences! Each handmade bun is plump and white when it is freshly steamed, with an irresistible aroma. The outer skin is soft and slightly sweet, while the filling is generous and substantial. With its affordable price, it's no wonder there are always long queues outside.

Traditional Fuzhou buns are characterized by their high fat content, making them quite greasy. However, modern health concepts emphasize less oil, so the restaurant's signature meat bun has been slightly modified. It uses pork foreleg from Taitung, which is tender and elastic but less greasy. The meat is also cooked in soy sauce, making it very fragrant and a must-order item for customers.

The straight Brown Avenue is officially named Jinxin No. 3 Road. It is about 2.2 kilometers long. Because there are no utility poles on both sides, and when the rice ripens, the endless golden rice ears on both sides of the road sway in the wind, creating a tranquil pastoral scene, it was chosen by Brown Coffee to shoot an advertisement. Later, EVA Air, which is endorsed by a well-known celebrity, also came here to film. Since then, it has become famous and the road has been nicknamed "Brown Avenue".

The beautiful Paradise Road is located in the middle of Brown Avenue. There is an S-shaped road called Wanxin Road. Riding along the winding country lanes through the endless rice fields recreates the scene of the protagonist riding a bicycle in the advertisement. Such beautiful pastoral scenery still deeply attracts tourists from all over the world to come and enjoy cycling.

Enjoy the delightful taste of tea served under the tree – the Tea Serving Tree is a sapling on Brown Avenue, the filming location for a famous celebrity serving tea. It attracts many fans and tourists for photo opportunities. Since Brown Avenue is usually a farm road used by farmers, please be mindful when visiting and do not trample on farmland or block farm vehicles.

The Chishang Fuzhen Bike Path is 8 kilometers long, with multiple different routes along the way. The road surface is flat with an elevation difference of about 5 meters, allowing you to enjoy the endless farmland scenery while cycling. The waterwheels of various sizes along the Fuzhen are full of ancient charm, as if you have stepped back into the simple rural life of the 1940s and 50s. There are also rest pavilions where you can stop and take a break. Here, you can freely and leisurely enjoy the natural and rural scenery while cycling.

Brown Avenue became famous worldwide because of an EVA Air advertisement, and the Ficus microcarpa tree in the film where the famous actor served tea was affectionately known as the "Tea-Serving Tree" (originally the Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree), becoming one of the must-see attractions for tourists visiting Brown Avenue. The Takeshi Kaneshiro Tree was knocked down by Typhoon Matmo in 2014, but fortunately, after being diagnosed by a dentist, it was determined that it could recover.
